Community Involvement

Gate Food Bank

Buchlyvie and Gartmore Churches supports the Gate Food Bank, with a collection point in both Churches.

The Alloa Gate Food Bank was started in 2010 in response to an increasing number of people we saw who were facing a crisis situation. Operating through referrals from statutory agencies as well as other charities and local faith communities they provide fresh and non-perishable food to those facing hunger.

The Food Bank responds the same day and can tailor the food parcels to particular needs, such as those with no access to cooking or for those with young children.

The Churches encourage support of Fairtrade, wherever possible. Fairtrade is available through www.fairtrade.net .

There is a wide variety of Fair Trade goods through https://www.traidcraftshop.co.uk or the print catalog. Goods may be ordered postage-free from Fair Trader Rae Wilson, via Margaret Sparkes, mgtsparkes@btinternet.com of 01360 850492.

The Church also supports Fairtrade through the sale of Olive oil from Palestine and Kilombero rice. Buchlyvie and Gartmore Churches in partnership with the local schools have successfully completed at least four 90 Kg Kilombero Rice challenges.
